On Wednesday, 23 September 2026, the candidates for the post of ILO Director-General will each take part in an interactive dialogue with the ILO's tripartite constituency. The dialogues give candidates the opportunity to make themselves and their vision known to the entire ILO constituency and the general public. The events will be held virtually, with candidates invited to participate in person at ILO headquarters in Geneva, and will be webcast live on this page.<ul><li data-list-item-id="e648f9b874a7b3ad8e82429eeab4a8850"><a href="https://www.ilo.org/about-ilo/ilo-director-general/appointment-director-general-ilo#candidates">Learn more about the candidates</a></li></ul>Which candidate will appear in this session?The order in which the candidates will appear will be determined by a random draw held the day before the dialogues. The name of the candidate speaking in this session will be announced on this page once the draw has taken place. This event, organized by the ILO, RISE (Reimagining Industry to Support Equality) and IOE (International Organisation of Employers) on the margins of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly, will explore how employers and responsible workplace financial services can help workers manage expenses, build savings and cope with financial shocks, while also contributing to stronger business performance.&nbsp;The workplace is emerging as an important entry point for improving workers’ financial health. Bringing together enterprises, employers’ and workers’ organizations, financial service providers, policymakers, regulators and development partners, the discussion will examine emerging workplace financial services, the safeguards needed to protect workers, and the partnerships required to scale responsible solutions.

The Workplace: A new frontier for promoting financial health

Organized on the margins of the UN General Assembly, this event will bring together governments, workers’ and employers’ representatives, UN partners and other stakeholders to discuss how the rapidly evolving platform economy can contribute to decent work, productivity and inclusive economic development.Against the backdrop of artificial intelligence, new business models and changing employment relationships, the discussion will explore how international labour standards, labour market institutions, skills policies, social protection and social dialogue can help ensure that technological change benefits workers and enterprises alike. Particular attention will be given to the implications of the newly adopted <a href="https://www.ilo.org/resource/article/how-will-new-convention-no193-promote-decent-work-platform-economy">ILO Convention No. 193 on decent work in the platform economy</a> and the opportunities it creates for cooperation at national, regional and global levels.The event is jointly organized by the ILO and the Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of Decent Work, in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations, and UNESCO.
