Decades of mismanagement and misuse have intensified water stress, threatening the many aspects of life that depend on this crucial resource. Dysfunction throughout the water cycle undermines progress on all major global issues, from health to hunger, gender equality to jobs, education to industry, and disasters to peace.
The UN 2023 Water Conference, which takes place at UN Headquarters from 22-24 March, aims to accelerate progress towards universal access to safe water and sanitation by 2030. As Chair of UN Water, ILO Director General Gilbert F. Houngbo will address the closing ceremony.
